The App
What is it?
Smart Dresser is an app that keeps track of everything your closet. Although it is part of an ongoing research project to support individuals on the autism spectrum, the app can be useful for anyone! Keep track of items, easily build outfits that avoid clashing colors or patterns, avoid wearing outfits too often, tag favorites, scroll through history, and create an entire outfit around one clothing item. Smart Dresser is an assistant- your own personal dresser in the palm of your hand!
How does it work?
Add a clothing item by taking a photo of it and adding details. The item is stored in your 'Closet'. You can choose to either generate a random outfit using all the items in your Closet or build an outfit around one item you choose. When you view an Item in your Closet, you can click on 'Wear' and it will build an outfit that goes with it. Favorite items or outfits to have them suggested more often. Favorited outfits go into your History so you can pull them out on those special days!
Who is the audience?
The app is part of an Autism research project headed by Dr. Erik Linstead of Chapman University. It is intended to support individuals on the autism spectrum who want to easily find clothing combinations that are complementary, but the app can really be useful for anyone who wants to organize the contents of their closets and keep track of great outfit ideas.
When can I download it?
We're gearing up for the 2nd annual Autism App Jam coming up from April 11-25. After the competition, we will continue to develop the app until it is ready for release. For now, we are only developing for Android. In other words, we don't know when it will be ready to release, but we'll let you know!
How can I help?
Participate in the Autism App Jam! There is a public viewing and reception: http://www.forockids.org/appjam/
Feel free to donate as well!

The Team
There are four of us! Aneesha and Mirabel are both Computer Science majors and do most of the back-end Java coding. They came onto the project first and have done a lot of programming in terms of creating the activities, weighting different object based on user 'Favorites', and creating all of the major actions of the app. They deserve a round of applause whenever they walk into a room. One of Aneesha's favorite things to do at meetings is make jokes out of things that may or may not be that funny and giggle uncontrollably while Mirabel stares at her in bemusement.
The next two people who came onto the project are Jennifer Re and Justine Stewart (me!). We're both Digital Arts majors. Jen has a Computer Science minor and I am a Game Development minor, so we know our way around code. Naturally, we do most of the front-end work: writing XMLs, making layouts for different screen sizes, creating custom spinners, and drawing icons and buttons. We do a little bit of back-end work like getting the crop action to work and designing a weather widget for the app, but we'd rather be playing with colors and messing around in Photoshop. We think we're pretty cool until none of our code compiles.
